Illustrator Thomas Fogarty is known for imbuing his pen and ink illustrations with his own nostalgia for an earlier era.
He did illustrations in many mediums, but was at his best with simple homespun subjects in pen and ink or wash and crayon, as exemplified by his interpretive pictures for the David Grayson books, and illustrations for Sailing Alone Around the World by Joshua Slocum.
For many years, he was a famous teacher at the Art Students League; his most famous student may have been Norman Rockwell
